Australian yard McConaghy commence construction on first MC82p catamaran

Australian yard McConaghy has started construction on the first hull in its 23.9 metre MC82p catamaran series.

The largest model in the builder’s multihull series, the first MC82p was sold to an experienced owner and is scheduled for delivery for March 2023.

Designed in-house and built in carbon fibre, the yacht is described as, “a confident long-range cruiser, family yacht and coastal weekender,” by the builder. The apartment-like interior has been penned by Italian studio M2atelier, which previously teamed up with the builder on the interior of the MC75. Naval architecture meanwhile comes from the boards of Ker Yacht Design.

Accommodation is for a total of eight guests in four ensuite double cabins split across the port and starboard hulls, while two crew cabins accommodate a staff of four.

However, each yacht can be “configured to specifically suit each client’s requirements,” according to Chief Executive, Mark Evans. “Some clients like to have a master suite on the main deck,” Evans said, “Others request fewer but larger guest suites and some place greater emphasis on crew accommodation.”

This first MC82p will feature a saloon with a dining area and open plan galley on the main deck, an aft deck with sofas and al fresco dining space and an exterior lounge forward of the superstructure. Elsewhere, a sheltered dining area and freestanding lounge furniture is found on the flybridge.

Power comes from twin 250 HP Yanmar engines for a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.

An exciting prospect from the Australian shipyard. Stay tuned to motoryacht.com.au for the latest from yards around Australia.
